Introducing... Jorja Smith - ‘Blue Lights’

Newcomer, Jorja Smith has already racked up over 100,000 plays on her Soundcloud within a week of the premiere of her debut ‘Blue Lights’.

But who is this intriguing new vocalist that has caught the ears of Stormzy and Skrillex, who have both showed their support by tweeting her new record? Well...

Jorja Smith is an 18-year-old, classically trained vocalist from Walsall, (just out of London), and is currently based in South London. Managing her time between writing music and holding down a job serving coffees at Starbucks, (where she currently works); Smith may just have to cut her time short at the coffee chain-house if she continues to release quality records like ‘Blue Lights’.

‘Blue Lights’ has that raw, underground and soulful sound that demands the listeners attention, and boasts of Jorja's impressive song-writing skills with the lyrics. Somewhat reminding me of a mix of Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill; Hill whom she gains inspiration from.

The thoughtful song stylishly samples Dizzie Rascal's ‘Sirens’
"better run when you hear the sirens coming,
the blue lights are coming for you".

And places the singer as one of the rising new acts of 2016 that cannot be ignored.
